Structural Technician

Don brings a strong multi-disciplinary eye to any type of project that comes his way. Educated in and practicing architecture for over 14 years and structural for 4, he has a deep understanding of design intent, communication, and execution through 3d modeling, detailed documents and hands on construction experience. Also, with an extensive background in furniture/industrial design, Don is well-versed in materiality and how assemblies come together cohesively. 

In the time spent on the VALAR team, he has taken on complex modeling/detailing responsibilities from a wide range of structural systems, including non-conventional cross-laminated timber and mass plywood panel construction. There is no challenge that Don is not ready to take on as his focus is on a balance of efficiency and quality in all he does – with a consistent backdrop of positivity and teamwork. Don was born and raised in the Portland area and has much respect for the local fabric of makers, architects, and engineers that have made and will continue to make our city thrive.
